We are homeowners!

On March 13, 2007 we signed our lives away for this house and we could not be happier about it.  Our very own home, far far away from the only place we have ever lived.  We’re actually really excited about that.  We both have lived on Long Island forever and we are overdue for a big change like this.

Over Easter Weekend we drove back down to North Carolina to pick out all of the stuff for the house.  We chose the brick and the siding colors, the light fixtures and carpeting, hardwood floors and paint colors.  It was overwhelming and fun all at the same time.  We never thought we would be able to afford a house like this, brand new, custom built for us, but we finally can and it feels like everything is coming together for us.  We worked hard and soon we’ll be collecting the payoff.

Right now, our builder is telling us that it will be a few months before everything is done, but that works nicely for us.  We still have some loose ends to finish up on Long Island and we might not want to move until the end of the year, but we’ll see how everything plays out.  For now, we’ll just be over here basking in the glow of homeownership. cheese

The Huntington

Otherwise known as the HOUSE WE REALLY LOVE TODAY!  Except I want it all in the siding and Sean likes the stone.  Decisions.

You can click the layout image for a slightly larger image.  We would want to add the bonus room, over the open two story family room (while I am sure that family room looks gorgeous open, I would rather be able to use that space.  And a bonus room would be PERFECT as our gaming room (because yes, we want a gaming room).

And then we would also want to add on a screened in porch.  The cat would really love that, and we both really would too.

It’s bigger than what we thought we might want.  But for the money, it’s hard to pass up.  Something like this on Long Island would be outrageously expensive.  This seems really worth it.

Now we need to get down and actually look at a model.  And find out if we can add things, like a pool and fencing.  I read on some community websites like this that you are not able to make any exterior modifications and if that is the case it is a deal breaker.  Hopefully it won’t be an issue.

We’re excited!! :D

Newlywed No More

We’ve been married almost 1.5 years.  I don’t even know where all that time has gone, but it did go by pretty fast.

The one thing we never did was pick out photos for our wedding album.  The funny part (or some might not think so) is that the wait now to get our album completed is going to be something like 2 years.  So maybe by our 5th anniversary we’ll have a wedding photo album for ourselves and one for our parents.  We can hope, right?

So what have we been doing since our wedding.  A whole lot of the same stuff.  We both have been working a lot of hours in order to save money so that eventually we can move to North Carolina and buy a home.  Not any grand fancy home, just something that we could call our own.  A yard where we could grow a garden.  Some grass to mow.  Maybe even with a fence and a dog in the backyard.

It’s really hard to stay on Long Island and continuing paying the rent that we pay while trying to save up for “that one day”, but we are trying.  Sean is selling pools and I am working for the construction during the day and nights and weekends find me busy with my business.

We’ll be taking a much needed vacation right after Thanksgiving.  We’re going back to our honeymoon cabin in South Carolina.  We had so much fun the last time that we decided that we’ll probably go back every year.  It’s beautiful country down there and really quiet and peaceful.  We both can not wait!
