Bridal Shower

Well, I had my Bridal Shower on April 16, 2005.  I had some idea that it was going to be coming up (afterall, it was getting VERY close) but I was not compeltely sure about it.  I had made plans with my mom to go dress shopping with her on the 16th.  She had yet to find an outfit, so I told her I would go with her to look.  She called a few days before and asked if it was okay for MaryJane to come along with us.  This got my spidey sense tingling, because why would she need BOTH OF US to go?  So I immediately thought something was up.  But then, I had conflicting info from my mother-in-law because she was coming up the following weekend.  I just wasn’t sure.

Since the plan was to pick MJ up at her house and then go dress shopping, I thought that instead of ending up at a dress store, we would end up “going to lunch” first (or after) and that would be when my shower was.  We pulled up to MaryJane’s house and there were a lot of cars outside.  But there was also a garage sale going on next door, so I chalked it up to that.  When I walked inside, all I saw were tons of people and there was some yelling of “surpirse” or something.  Well, I was surprised!! I couldn’t really believe it was happening, and it was hard to take it all in.

After catching my breath and grabbing a drink, I made my rounds to say hello to everyone and just enjoy the fact that it was my bridal shower.  Ya know, you go to other women’s showers and you have a good time and you imagine what it must be like to have it be YOUR shower, and then all of a sudden it is your shower and it feels 1000 times better than you imagined.  All of those people coming to a party for YOU, to celebrae that YOU are getting married!  It was amazing!

My sisters did a fabulous job and added such sweet touches to the day, including daisies (which are our wedding flowers), a custom cake with photos of Sean and I when we were just wee little tots and a great Memory Book!  My sister even made chocolate daisies, that were consumed very quickly.

The best part was the fact that it was at my sister’s home.  I really wanted a laid back atmosphere without the rush of having it out at some restaurant, with time constraints and other people.  I was able to mingle, enjoy some delicious food out on the back deck, open all of my gifts (which was super fun because all of the guests played Bridal Bingo while I was opening everything.  It was hilarious when someone would yell BINGO after I opened a waffle iron, or dish towels).  After the gifts, we had cake and coffee.  My sister also handed me all the recipe cards that had been sent out with the inviations and then given to her from each guest, along with a copy of the acutal bridal invitation.

It truly was one of the best days.  Being surrounded by people that love me and support me was wonderful and full of emotion.  It must feel somewhat like how we’ll feel on the wedding day, though I imagine at least 100 times stronger.
